Lance Corporal James Innes Kelman

The only evidence of this man's military service discovered to date is contained in the Presbyterian Church in Ireland's Roll of Honour, which states that he was a lance corporal in the North Irish Horse, lived at 8 Glandore Avenue, Belfast, and worshipped with the May Street Congregation of the Presbyterian Church in Belfast.

James Innes Kelman was born on 6 March 1891 at 12 Fairview Street, Belfast, the last of six children of Scottish-born parents, clerk James Kelman and his wife Annie (née Johnston). By the time of the 1911 Census he was living in Glandore Avenue with his parents and three of his four surviving siblings, and working as an insurance clerk.

The date of Kelman enlistment in the North Irish Horse is not known at present. Nor is his regimental number. He would have trained at the regiment's Antrim reserve camp, remaining there until discharged or demobilised during or soon after the war.

By 1965 Kelman was living at 3 Waterloo Gardens, Belfast, having retired from work as an insurance official. He died in the Royal Victoria Hospital on 22 July that year, and was buried in the City Cemetery.
